Welcome to Taipei !

The capital of Taiwan, Taipei is the political, financial, and cultural lifeline of the island. It is a modern metropolis with world-class shopping, dozens of great museums, a wide variety of excellent restaurants, and history, all connected seamlessly by one of the best public transportation systems in the world.

To ensure you have a pleasant and seamless experience during AOMSC 2027, we have put together some essential travel tips for your stay in Taipei.

Climate

The conference takes place from June 28 to July 1, which is mid-summer in Taiwan. During this period, temperatures in Taipei typically range from highs of 34°C (93°F) in the daytime to around 27°C (81°F) in the evening.

Since this time of year marks the transition between the plum rain season and the start of the typhoon season, we highly recommend carrying a sturdy umbrella for both sudden heavy rain and protection from the intense summer sun.

Language

While Mandarin is the official language in Taiwan, English is the most common foreign language. Most public transportation and major destination signs include English translations.

However, as some public transport drivers may have limited English proficiency, we recommend carrying the Mandarin translation of your destination or a hotel address card to easily show the driver.

Electricity

Taiwan operates on 110V/60Hz (Type A or B plugs).

Appliances from Europe, Australia, or South-East Asia will require an adaptor or transformer to be used. It’s worth noting that many buildings in Taiwan have sockets with 220 volts, primarily for the purpose of powering air conditioners.

Currency

The official currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD/NT$), which is issued in denominations of $100, $200, $500, $1,000, and $2,000, while coins come in $1, $5, $10, and $50. For daily transactions, $100 and $1,000 notes are the most commonly used.

While international credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, JCB) are widely accepted in hotels, major department stores, and upscale restaurants, cash remains the preferred payment method at local small shops, traditional markets, and night markets. Most convenience stores and ATMs in Taiwan support international card withdrawals, making it easy to access local currency upon arrival.

The EasyCard

For a seamless travel experience, we highly recommend purchasing an EasyCard (locally known as the ‘Yo-Yo Card’). This all-in-one contactless smart card can be used for almost all public transportation, including the MRT (subway), city buses, and YouBike, as well as for small purchases at convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, etc.) and certain retailers.

EasyCards can be purchased and topped up at all MRT station information counters, automated ticketing machines, and major convenience stores. Using an EasyCard not only saves time but also offers convenience for short-distance travel throughout the city.

Insurance

Travel insurance is not included in the registration fees. Participants are highly recommended to purchase their preferred appropriate travel insurance following completion of congress registration, prior to arrival in Taiwan.

Time Zone

Taipei operates on UTC+8.

Getting to the Venue (TICC)

The Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) is located in the heart of the city’s vibrant Xinyi District. The most convenient way to reach the venue is by taking the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Red Line) to the Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station.

By MRT

If you are arriving at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), the Airport MRT Express Train is the fastest route to the city center. It takes approximately 36 to 39 minutes to reach Taipei Main Station.

Upon arriving at Taipei Main Station, follow the signs for the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Red Line). Take the Red Line train heading toward Xiangshan and get off at Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station. Please use Exit 1, and you will find the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) just a short walk away.

For direct door-to-door service, yellow taxis are readily available at both airports and throughout the city. A taxi ride from the airport to the Taipei city typically takes about an hour, with fares ranging from NT$1,100 to NT$1,400 depending on your specific destination and traffic conditions.

Most trips within central Taipei cost between NT$100 and NT$300. Please note that there is a NT$20 supplement for
late-night rides.
